1. What the Forms Module Needs #
Your Forms module:
- Generates shorter, focused responses:
- Auto replies.
- Email content.
- Often runs on many submissions (e.g. contact forms).
- Needs:
- Good instruction following.
- Low cost per request.
- Stable formatting for emails / templated replies.
2. Recommended Models for Forms #
For Forms, we prioritize cheap + fast, but still need good quality.
Best default for Forms:
gpt-4.1-mini- Excellent instruction following.
- Strong general reasoning.
- Large context (1M tokens) – good if you include form context and long historical prompt. OpenAI Platform+2OpenAI+2
- Good balance of quality vs cost.
High-volume / low-cost option:
gpt-4.1-nano- Fastest and cheapest 4.1 model; ideal if you have many forms submissions per day. OpenAI+2OpenAI Platform+2
- Great for:
- Simple auto-acknowledgements (“Thanks, we received your request…”).
- Short, templated replies.
Premium option for important business forms:
gpt-4.1- Use if certain forms require:
- Rich, detailed responses.
- More nuance or sensitivity (e.g., complex support forms). OpenAI+1
- Use if certain forms require:
Legacy / fallback:
gpt-4o-miniorgpt-4o- Solid if you already use them or if 4.1 is not yet available. OpenAI Platform+2Zapier+2
gpt-3.5-turbo- Only if you have no access to the 4.x family or are extremely budget-sensitive. OpenAI Platform+1
3. Models to Avoid for Forms #
- Heavy reasoning models (
o1,o3, etc.):- Overkill for simple contact form replies; slower and more expensive. OpenAI Platform+2OpenAI+2
- Very old / deprecated models:
- Might disappear or be redirected, causing unpredictable behavior over time. OpenAI Platform+1
